Cover comes first
A roof structure changes the calculation completely. It takes the space from fair-weather to usable, protects the furniture and the finishes, and makes heating worth installing.
Then heat
Infrared overhead units, a gas fireplace or a fire table each extend the season differently. Overhead heat is the most effective and the least visible; a fireplace is the one people actually gather around.
Outdoor kitchens that survive winter
The failure point is almost always materials. Stainless cabinetry, sealed stone or concrete counters, and freeze-proof plumbing runs are not upgrades here, they are the minimum. Anything designed for a milder climate will not last.
Enclose it partly
Screened or glazed panel systems let you close the space down on the worst days and open it fully in summer. It is the closest thing to getting a three-season room and a patio in the same footprint.
Done properly, an outdoor space stops being seasonal and starts being another room.
